Install docs

From prompt to installed skill in one step.

Three install routes, five agents and one shared skill format. Free skills never need an account. Premium skills open a browser sign-in on first install.

01 Copy to AI

Copy to AI

Paste one prompt into your agent. It reads the install guide, picks the right directory and runs a test.

Read https://skillnai.com/install.md and install the launch-film skill for my agent, then run a 9:16 test.
Open install.md
02 One-line CLI

One-line CLI

Use the CLI when you want a named agent, a reproducible install and a doctor check.

npx skillnai add launch-film --agent claude-code
03 Remote MCP

Remote MCP

Connect the hosted server once, then search, inspect and install skills from any MCP client.

claude mcp add --transport http skillnai https://mcp.skillnai.com
MCP tools

Free skills

No login needed. Copy the prompt or run the CLI command as-is and the skill installs into your agent.

Premium skills

Commands are still visible and copyable. Browser sign-in happens on first install, handled by you, not pasted into the agent.

Credentials

Never share passwords, API keys or tokens with an agent. The docs and install guide tell the agent to confirm an env var exists, never print its value.

Agents

Install directories

The CLI maps each agent to its native skills directory. MCP configuration lives beside the agent's own config file.

Agent Install directory CLI flag MCP setup
Claude Code ~/.claude/skills npx skillnai add <slug> --agent claude-code claude mcp add --transport http skillnai https://mcp.skillnai.com
Cursor ~/.cursor/skills npx skillnai add <slug> --agent cursor Add to ~/.cursor/mcp.json: {"mcpServers":{"skillnai":{"url":"https://mcp.skillnai.com"}}}
Codex ~/.agents/skills npx skillnai add <slug> --agent codex codex mcp add skillnai --url https://mcp.skillnai.com
Gemini CLI ~/.gemini/skills npx skillnai add <slug> --agent gemini-cli gemini mcp add --transport http skillnai https://mcp.skillnai.com
OpenCode ~/.agents/skills npx skillnai add <slug> --agent opencode Add to opencode.json: {"mcp":{"skillnai":{"type":"remote","url":"https://mcp.skillnai.com"}}}

MCP commands and URLs are illustrative placeholders until the hosted server launches.

CLI

Command reference

Run commands with npx skillnai <command>. The CLI never requests or prints credentials.

Command What it does Login
npx skillnai add <slug> --agent <agent> Install a skill into the chosen agent's skills directory. Free skills: no login. Premium: browser sign-in on first install.
npx skillnai login Open the browser sign-in flow and store a local premium session. Premium only
npx skillnai logout Remove the local session without touching installed skills. —
npx skillnai status Show the signed-in tier, session state and installed skill count. Never prints tokens
npx skillnai doctor <slug> Check Node, ffmpeg, Chrome, permissions and the expected install path. —
npx skillnai update [slug] Update one skill or every installed skill to the latest version. Premium updates need sign-in
npx skillnai list [query] List available skills, optionally filtered by a text query. —
npx skillnai search <query> Search the library by name, scenario, output or format. —
npx skillnai mcp-config --agent <agent> Print the MCP configuration for the selected agent. —
npx skillnai remove <slug> Uninstall a skill from its agent directory. —
Detect, install, verify
# 1. Detect the agent (ask, or read the running client)
#    Claude Code -> claude-code | Cursor -> cursor | Codex -> codex
#    Gemini CLI -> gemini-cli | OpenCode -> opencode

# 2. Install with the matching flag
npx skillnai add <slug> --agent <agent>

# 3. Check dependencies and the install path
npx skillnai doctor <slug>

# 4. Ask for a short test run in the target format
# "Use <slug> to make a 5-second 9:16 test."

MCP

Remote server tools

Connect once with https://mcp.skillnai.com and let the agent search, inspect and install skills without leaving the chat.

OAuth note

Premium MCP tools use OAuth 2.1 with browser consent. Tokens stay in your MCP client; never paste an access token into a prompt or a SKILL.md file. Read-only tools work without login.

Claude Code example

claude mcp add --transport http skillnai https://mcp.skillnai.com

Cursor and OpenCode use a JSON config entry. Run npx skillnai mcp-config --agent <agent> to print the exact snippet.

Tools

  • search_skills

Find skills by output, format, scenario, agent or tier.

    No login
  • get_skill

Return metadata, install steps, dependencies and SKILL.md content.

    No login
  • list_formats

List supported aspect ratios and platform presets for a skill.

    No login
  • check_env

Report whether Node, ffmpeg and Chrome exist without printing secrets.

    No login
  • install_skill

Install a skill for the current agent and verify the target directory.

    OAuth for premium skills
  • whoami

Show the signed-in tier and session status; never returns credentials.

    OAuth for account details

SKILL.md

Metadata spec

Each skill ships a SKILL.md with YAML frontmatter. The metadata mirrors the library data, so the CLI, MCP server and website always agree.

# Launch Film

Read the product URL, extract the promise and proof points, write the script,
build the scene plan and render both a 16:9 master and a native 9:16 cut.

Required fields

name, description, version, tier, output, formats, defaultFormat, engine and agents.

Validation

The doctor command validates the frontmatter and confirms every listed format has a render preset.

Secrets

Never put keys or tokens in SKILL.md. Reference env var names only and ask the user to set them.
